The mechanics of animation are simple. You have to change the images in a sequence so that it appears to the eye as moving. Of course you know that but you also have to ensure that the transition from one image in the sequence to another is not abrupt.

I have an effect similar to this in my header. If done correctly this tutorial simulates a “vu meter” or to the audio newb the meter that shows spikes on different bars to display noise information. Fun tutorial requires Photoshop and Image Ready
